LAHORE: Lahore Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Sadiq Ali said that empathy rather than sympathy provides strength to persons with disabilities to overcome their shortcomings.
The general was addressing a ceremony for Special Children of RISE Institute for Special Children held at Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) Headquarters, Lahore. Director General Pakistan Rangers Major General Umar Farooq Burki, was also present on the occasion.
General Sadiq Ali further pointed that providing a supportive environment for children with mental and physical impairment is not only a religious obligation but a social responsibility as well. He further added that a little effort from the society can help such children to grow and prosper.
“There are many examples where people with mental and physical disabilities have outshined many others in various fields of life, he said.”|
The general appreciated the outstanding performance by special children of Rising Sun School DHA Lahore Campus during International Special Olympics, held in Australia in 2013 where they managed to win 15 medals.
General Sadiq Ali stressed on the duty of fellow Pakistanis to help such people because according to a recent survey there are 5.4 million special persons in Pakistan.
Earlier, the special children sang national songs which were applauded by audience.
