Seven gunmen were gunned down by Larkana police in the riverine area in the limits of Baradi Jatoi Police Station on Thursday. Police also claimed to have recovered huge quantities of ammunition from their possession which included two anti-aircraft guns, rocket launchers, bullets, KK, 3G and 4G rifles. The alleged Larkana police encounter took place within the jurisdiction of the Khairpur district. The deceased were identified as Pathan alias Pathoo Narejo, Iqbal Narejo (each carrying head money of Rs one million), Abbas Narejo (brother of Iqbal Narejo), Akhtiyar Narejo (son-in-law of notorious Nazroo Narejo who was killed few years ago), Malan Shaikh alias Maloo Shaikh and identity of sixth and seventh was not established but police sources claimed that he could either be a Shaikh or Kalhoro. Khairpur police helped Larkana police by sealing the entire riverine area of their limits so that criminals could not escape.
According to details, SSP Larkana Masood Bangash got a tip-off that a gang of hardened bandits was hiding in the riverine area. He then immediately ordered the movement of his cops to the Ketty Mumtaz police station which too is located in the katcha area of Larkana district. The whereabouts of the dacoits, who were wanted by police in kidnap for ransom, murder, robberies and other heinous crimes, were also traced through digital devices.
On seeing the heavy police contingents that were mobilized from the entire district the bandits opened fire which was retaliated and soon it became free for all, a police officer told this scribe. The hardened criminals started running in the jungle which was followed and killed within the limits of the Khairpur district riverine area.
