ISLAMABAD: Thousands attended funeral of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) Maulana Sami-ul-Haq in Akora Khattak town on Saturday afternoon.
Sami, who headed Jamia Haqqani, was stabbed to death by unknown assailant(s) at his home in Bahria Town Rawalpindi on Friday.
No one has claimed responsibility of the attack as of yet. A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against unknown assailant(s) in connection to Sami-ul-Haq’s murder at Airport Police Station in Rawalpindi on his son, Hamidul Haq’s complaint.
JUI-S leader Yousaf Shah told Daily Times there was no threat to the slain leader.
Sami’s funeral prayer, which was lead by his son Hamid, was offered at a field in a local college, which was attended by a large number of people including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, Governor Shah Farman among other political leaders.
As condolences pour in, Afghan Taliban also expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and condemned the assassination as the “handiwork of the enemy of Islam.”
Motives behind Sami’s mysterious murder are unclear and police say they are investigating the high profile murder. Several residents of Bahria Town told reporters on Friday that they had seen three persons arrive at Maulana Sami’s house.
The JUI-S leader was stabbed to death in the upper portion of his house when he was alone. His guard and driver had gone to a nearby market for shopping when the incident happened. Sami family has denied personal enmity to anyone.
