German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s has telephoned Prime Minister Imran Khan and invited him to visit Germany, a PM House statement said.
According to the statement, the German chancellor congratulated Imran on assuming the prime minister office and invited him to visit her country. To this, the prime minister thanked Merkel for the call and accepted her invitation.
The German chancellor emphasised the importance of deepening bilateral relations, expressed desire to expand cooperation in diverse fields and work together on issues of mutual interest at the regional and global levels, the statement read.
PM Imran, during the telephonic conversation, expressed the desire for further enhancing bilateral relations with Germany into a mutually beneficial, broad-based and long-term partnership.
The prime minister added that Germany is the largest trading partner of Pakistan in Europe and there is a substantial potential for cooperation in the spheres of energy and automobile sectors, and investment in hydroelectric power generation.
Both the dignitaries also discussed the regional situation, especially the importance of a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan and relations with India.
