ISLAMABAD: At least three Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel lost their lives in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in North Waziristan’s Ghulam Khan area on Sunday.
The FC personnel were on routine patrol when an IED targeting their vehicle exploded. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the IED exploded as an FC bomb disposal team was undertaking a routine search and clearance operation in the area.
The martyred FC soldiers were identified by ISPR as Naik Inayatullah Khattak, Sepoy Mohsin Ali Turi and Sepoy Sifatullah.
A curfew was announced in the Ghulam Khan area, which is near the Pak-Afghan border, as a result of the explosion.
Security forces started search for the perpetrators of the explosion.
On December 5, six people were killed and eight others injured after an IED went off near an army vehicle in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan.
Separately, at least six children were injured in a hand grenade blast in Orakzai Agency.
Political administration said that while playing near their house in Utmankhel area of Lower Orakzai Agency, children found a hand grenade. They started playing with the grenade and it exploded with a bang. The injured were shifted to Kalaya Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
In Swat, police arrested 30 suspects besides recovering arms and drugs during search operations in different areas on Sunday.
DPO Wahid Mehmood said that police conducted operations against outlaws and 30 suspects were apprehended with arms and drugs.
The detainees were being interrogated after registering cases against them. In crackdown against unscrupulous elements, law enforcement agencies (LEAs) also arrested 10 suspects during separate raids in Karachi and Faisalabad late Saturday night.
