LAHORE: Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi of the Lahore High Court on Friday directed Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman (DC) to ensure payment against acquisition of Miani Sahib Graveyard’s land for the metro bus service; otherwise accounts of the district government could be frozen.
The DC sought time for the payment of the amount. The court also directed the DC to inform about the policy, if any, on advance booking of the graveyard’s land for graves. The court also directed the DC to ensure audit of the graveyard’s committee.
Earlier, the court on January 3 directed the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) to pay Rs 22 million rent to the Miani Sahib graveyard committee for using the graveyard’s land since 1986. The court was hearing a petition against acquisition of graveyard land for the metro bus service.
