LAHORE: A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking ban on children working as maids and servants, and enforcement of laws prohibiting violence against them in homes.
Ishtiaq Ahmed, a local resident filed the petition on Friday. The petitioner also sought complete implementation of law imposing ban on child labour.
The petitioner stated that the laws did not allow child labour or keeping them at homes as servants or maids. “Unfortunately, despite a clear bar on child labour in the country, children are kept as servants at homes,” he said.
He said it was responsibility of the government to provide education facilities to the children. He requested the court to impose a complete ban on keeping children as servants and housemaids, and enforce the relevant law to prevent violence against them.
