GUJRANWALA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has successfully traced the human smugglers who had kidnapped four Pakistanis in Turkey. According to media reports, two of the human traffickers have been arrested from Gujranwala.
The apprehended suspects have been identified as brothers Afzal and Sohail, residents of Gujranwala.
The modus operandi of the smugglers was such that Afzal took people to Greece through Turkey. While in Turkey, Sohail abducted them. Afzal then contacted the families for ransom and Sohail would send videos to the families, showing the abductees being tortured. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 2 million for each abductee.
A team led by FIA Deputy Director Khalid Anees met with the families of the abductees. The families of the victims shared details of the smugglers with FIA.
Earlier on Monday, the Foreign Office had confirmed that four Pakistanis from Gujranwala were abducted by human smugglers in Turkey.
The Foreign Office further informed that the Pakistani diplomatic authorities in Istanbul and Ankara were taking the required measures to resolve the issue. It said that the Turkish authorities were aware of the situation and were giving their full cooperation in this regard.
