ISLAMABAD: The northern areas of the country experienced the first snowfall of the year, causing the weather to turn cold and chilly.
Snow fell in Murree, Nanga Parbat, Muzaffarabad, Neelum and Bapusar Top, which resulted in the whole area being covered in a white blanket. Tourism in Murree registered an increase as tourists thronged the hill resort to enjoy the weather.
Moreover, rainfall was recorded in Islamabad, Lahore, Swat, Swabi and Dir.
The Met Office had forecasted a westerly wave to hit the upper parts of the country on Tuesday. Under the influence of this wave, the upper parts of the country are expected to receive intermittent rain, thunderstorm and snowfall expected from Tuesday to Saturday.
Cold and dry weather has been forecasted in most parts of the country in the coming days. Rain is expected at isolated places of Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, upper FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Furthermore, dense fog is likely to prevail over the plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during the night and early morning hours.
