ISLAMABAD: The Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights Committee has taken notice of a judicial commission’s report on the Quetta carnage and decided to take up the matter today (Monday).
Sources within the Senate Secretariat told Daily Times that a seven-point agenda would be discussed at the meeting, to be held at the Parliament House under the chair of Nasreen Jalil.
The most important agenda of the meeting is discussion on the judicial commission’s report on Quetta carnage. Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa had authored this report, in which he had questioned the Interior Ministry’s performance.
On the other hand, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan expressed serious reservations over this report and announced that he would submit his response in the Supreme Court.
According to sources, the interior and human rights secretaries have also been summoned for today’s meeting to have their viewpoints.
The committee will also discuss the attack on an Ahmadi place of worship in Chakwal, while briefing has been sought from the Interior Ministry and Sindh Rangers on the inquiry report regarding Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) member Aftab Ahmad, who died in the custody of Rangers. The committee will further consider the Hindu Marriage Bill, 2016.
