KARACHI: A young boy died, while 20 others were injured from stray bullets fired during New Year’s Eve celebrations in the provincial capital.
Police said the shots fired into the air by people celebrating the coming year had resulted in the deaths and injuries.
Seven year old Subhan, who was travelling with his father on a motorbike was hit by a stray bullet near Ayesha Manzil.
He sustained a bullet wound to the head. He was transported to a hospital in Nazimabad where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
20 other people were injured in various localities of the city from aerial firing, the police added. Among those hit by the stray bullets was a 7 year old girl, Ariba, as well as three other women, said Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali.
“We received 10 people with bullet injuries from various areas,” she said.
Dr Jamali added that the girl’s condition was critical as she had been struck in the abdomen. She had been referred to the National Institute of Child Health for further treatment.
