LAHORE: Justice Ayesha A Malik of the Lahore High Court on Friday suspended operation of summons issued to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Abdul Aleem Khan by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) allegedly at the behest of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
The court also sought reply from the ECP till January 17, 2017.
Petitioner counsel submitted that the ECP had initiated criminal proceedings against Aleem Khan after accusing him of submitting fake affidavits before an election tribunal.
He said that the ECP was illegally issuing summons to the petitioner at the behest of the NA speaker.
He said that the court had already declared illegal such actions by the ECP against the petitioner. He said that the summons issued by the ECP were a result of political victimisation and had no legal values.
He requested the court to set aside the summons issued by the commission.
