ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid on Friday said that the Council of Common Interest (CCI) was not concerned with administrative affairs of the state.
He said that the government enjoyed the power to make decisions to bring regulatory bodies under the ministries, while winding up the debate in the Senate on the motion to bring the regulatory bodies under the government.
“So many times decisions were made to bring these regulatory bodies under these ministries from 2002 to so far and amended later on and sometimes the control of these institutions had been changed in the same regime,” the Minister added.
He said that the prime minister had the power to issue administrative orders related to the business of the state. Similarly, the government also enjoyed the power to decide the fate of these regulatory bodies.
Hamid said that the administrative affairs of regulatory bodies are of no concern to the CCI with the institution having only the power to talk to, control and monitor these bodies. He added that it was the obligation of the government to look after the matters of their daily routine.
The Minister requested the Senate chairman to not issue a ruling on this as this matter could be debated in the standing committee on transfer of powers.
