KARACHI: Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE)’s President Zia Shahid and Secretary General Aijaz-u-Haq along with senior members of the body met Corps. Commander Karachi Lt. Gen ShahidBaig Mirza on Thursday.
Matters relating to law and order situation in Karachi and particularly security issues confronting journalists and concerns regarding freedom of expression came under discussion during the meeting. The Corps Commander informed the Editors that the current operation against terrorists and anti-peace elements will not only continue but its affectability and intensity would be enhanced in order to provide sense of security to general public and specially the business community so citizens would be able to persuade their daily routine in a peaceful environment.
He said that in the current scenario, media’s power has become eminent, which plays an important role in carving general opinion and awareness among masses. The army considers the general public as its power and considers its obligation to serve the people and could not even imagine taking steps that would be against the aspirations of the people.
CPNE’s Vice President Amir Mehmood, Wamiq A.Zuberi, Dr.JabbarKhattak, IkramSehgal, KaziAsadAbid, Faisal Zahid Malik, Ghulam NabiChandio, Hamid Hussain Abidi, WaqarYousufAzeemi, Saeed Khawar, Abdul Khalique Ali, Abdul RehmanMangrio, Waheed Jamal and ZahidaAbbasi also attended the meeting.
