LAHORE: The 19th convocation of the University of Central Punjab was held at Expo Centre on Thursday.
British Council of Pakistan Country Director Rose Mary Hilhorst was the chief guest on occasion, whereas Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Abdul Basit was the guest of honour.
Around 1,373 students received degrees. Daneyal Muhammad Mirza was awarded roll of honour and two students received merit certificates. 54 position holders were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals, and 108 graduates received MS/MPhil degrees.
As many as 247 students of Faculty of Information Technology, 717 students of UCP Business School, 191 students of School of Accounting and Finance, 128 students Faculty Engineering, 65 students of Faculty of Arts and Social Science, 14 Faculty of Pharmacy and 11 students of School of Media and Communication Studies get degrees.
In her address, Rosemary Hilhorst congratulated the graduates and their families. She said that the British Council was working in Pakistan since 1948 through programmes various programmes focused on arts, education and society. “160 universities of Pakistan are linked with the British Council and all VCs are being trained under the leadership programme by the Higher Education Commission,” she said.
LCCI President Abdul Basit said that the culture of research must be promoted. “Academia and industry must work in close collaboration to produce talent required by job market. Entrepreneurship must be encouraged,” he said, adding that the LCCI had opened its doors for graduates to seek assistance.
