LAHORE: Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Dr Nizamuddin on Wednesday said Punjab is facing a shortage of 4000 PhD teachers.
He was addressing the first conference on banking, insurance and business management. The event was organised by Punjab University Hailey College of Banking and Finance.
Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Hailey College of Banking and Finance Principal Prof Dr Mubasher Munawar Khan, LCCI President Abdul Basit and students were also present.
Dr Nizamuddin said Pakistan cannot benefit from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project unless ample human resource is produced in every sector, he added.
He said, “CPEC is political-economic enterprise for Pakistan but our universities are not properly working on it. We must focus on increasing our exports. Globalization is a challenge and we must prepare ourselves for meeting the emerging demands.”
PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said the government must focus on preparing trained manpower. He said terrorism was a big challenge for CPEC. He said that international forces would use terrorism to destabilise this region.
LCCI President Abdul Basit said law and order, lack of good governance, political instability, terrorism, lack of planning and lack of implementation of policies were the major challenges being faced by the country’s economy. He said the trade volume of CPEC would reach $2.5 trillion in the next decade. He said the government must provide security to foreign investors. He said Pakistan must ensure best use of its geography. He said that strong linkages must be developed among academia, industry and research institutes.
HCBF Principal Prof Dr Mubasher Munawar Khan said that it was the first-ever conference in the 90-year history of the college. He said the college was providing the best human resource in banking and insurance sectors. He said the conference had been organised to provide a platform for the students and researchers to share their knowledge, experiences and research.
