ISLAMABAD: Mobile phone import into the country decreased by 18.25 per cent in first four months (July-October) of the fiscal year 2016-17 as compared to same period of last year.
According to latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the mobile phone import declined to $198.198 million in July-October (2016-17) from $242.456 million in the same period of preceding fiscal year. On yearly and monthly basis, the imports in October 2016 also decreased by 25.81 per cent and 4.12 per cent when compared to the import of October 2015 and September 2016.
The import in October went down to $51.636 million from $69.596 million in October 2015 and $53.855 million in 2016. The overall telecom imports also declined by 14.93 per cent to $381.989 million in July-October (2016-17), from $449.018 million in the first four months of previous year. On month-on-month basis the telecom import rose to $104.295 million in October, 2016 from $103.224 million in September, 2016, thus showing an increase of 1.04 per cent.
While on yearly basis, the telecom import decreased by 23.44 per cent as the import in October, 2015 was recorded at $136.229 million.
