Funeral prayers of the slain chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S), Maulana Samiul Haq, were offered here in Akora Khattak on Saturday after which he was laid to rest in his hometown near Darul Uloom Haqqania.
Led by his son Maulana Hamidul Haq, the funeral prayers of the deceased was offered at the Khushhal Khan College ground and attended by a large number of people including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and chief minister, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq, former governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Awami National Party’s Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Raja Zafarul Haq.
Haq, a renowned religious scholar and former senator, was stabbed to death at his residence in Rawalpindi a day earlier. A probe has already been launched into his assassination and forensic experts and investigation officials have collected evidence from his Rawalpindi residence. Police has also taken Haq’s two domestic staff members into custody for questioning.
The investigation officers carried out fingerprint scans of the phone, glasses and other items belonging to the religious scholar. His phone call record has also been obtained. The CCTV footage of the housing society where the JUI-S chief resided is being obtained to identify the suspects.
Earlier in the day, a first investigation report (FIR) of Haq’s assassination was registered. The FIR was filed in the Airport Police Station on the complaint of the religious scholar’s son, Maulana Hamidul Haq, against unidentified persons.
As per the FIR, Haq was attacked at 6:30 pm and was stabbed 12 times in his belly, chest, forehead and ear.
