LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday has formed a four-member cricket committee to assist and advise PCB chairman in relation to important cricket matters.
PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani has announced the formation of the committee at a news conference.
The committee consisted of three former captains of Pakistan cricket including Mohsin Khan, head of the committee, Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq and one former Pakistan women cricket captain, Urooj Mumtaz.
The ex-officio members include Zakir Khan, Director International Cricket, Haroon Rasheed, Director Domestic Cricket and Mudassar Nazar, Director Academies.
Subhan Ahmad explained the terms of reference of the committee, which are, to review the plans for promotion and conduct of game of cricket at all levels, formulate playing conditions for domestic matches, oversee appointment of selection committees, oversee appointment of national team coaches, meet the chief selector and coach (Men, Women and Junior) three times a year.
He said the committee has also been asked to review plans for the development of umpires, referees and curators. “It will also receive annual assessment of performance from
management on umpires and referees and will also oversee the preparation
and quality of pitches besides looking into the condition of playing facilities (dressing rooms, practice facilities including net wickets,” he said adding “the committee will also give views views on any other matter referred by the Chairman PCB.”
To a question, Subhan said made it clear that this committee has no decision making power and it has been established to guide PCB chairman on important cricket matter/ issues.
“There is no time frame set on the continuation of the committee,” he said.
“This committee will be under the direct scrutiny of the chairman PCB and he can question on our any decision,” he said. Wasim Akram said the committee will bring improvement in the Pakistan cricket, also in the structure of the first class working on the guide line of “quality more than quantity.
“We will also be bringing improvement in women cricket that is why we have a former women cricket captain in the committee,” said the former swing king. “I will continue my responsibility as cricket commentator as well and adjust myself according to the need of Pakistan cricket,” he said.
