LAHORE: The Pakistan International Airline (PIA), on Friday, submitted an investigation report to the Senate Special Committee related to heroin smuggling on London-bound PIA flight in May 15.
Reportedly, British authorities searched the PIA flight on a tip off at Heathrow Airport and recovered a “quantity of heroine”.
The PIA management dismissed its 13 staff members from engineering department, supervisors and technicians and a thorough investigation was conducted into the matter.
According to the report, security has been increased at all airports in Pakistan to stop smuggling. For this purpose, officials are monitoring security through close-circuit television cameras.
Non-essential personnel have been banned from approaching any aircraft, report added.
It noted that after busting heroine at Heathrow Airport, a joint search operation was conducted at Benazir Bhutto International Airport where officials recovered a huge cache of heroine which was hidden in another London-bound PIA flight.
