LAHORE: At least three suspected militants were killed in a U.S. drone strike in northwestern Kurram Agency near the Afghan border early Thursday morning.
According to Reuters, two Pakistani intelligence officials and a local government official said an unmanned aerial vehicle dropped two missiles on a compound housing militants under the command of a senior network commander, Abdur Rasheed Haqqani.
The armed drone targeted a suspected house of Rasheed Haqqani, a supposed key commander of Haqqani Network, in Ghuzgari area of Kurram, the official told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.
The house was completely destroyed, the official added.
Villagers initially reported a blast in the Upper Kurram area to authorities, said one of the officials, adding, “We got it from our informant later that it was a US drone strike that targeted Haqqanis.”
It was not clear if the commander was among those killed, added the officials.
