ISLAMABAD: The Senate, on Monday, sought explanation and briefing from the government on General (r) Raheel Sharif’s appointment as head of Islamic military alliance.
According to details, Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani inquired on General (r) Raheel Sharif’s appointment as the head of Islamic Military Alliance from Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
The chairman asked him to brief the upper house of the parliament about the appointment, after the defence minister confirmed that the ex-Pakistan army chief took up the job.
Rabbani sought a detailed briefing from Khawaja Asif on the appointment, asking him to inform the house whether Raheel Sharif asked for permission before taking up the assignment abroad.
Khawaja Asif was further asked to explain whether a no objection certificate was issued to the former army chief. The defence minister said that he would inform the house in this regard.
