A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane clipped the wing of an Air France plane while taxiing to its gate at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport on Tuesday evening.
According to the Greater Toronto Airports Authority spokeswoman Natalie Moncur, the incident took place at 6 pm ET. Natalie said that the Air France plane was parked at a gate at Terminal 3 when the PIA plane, which was taxiing towards its gate, clipped wings with it. No one was injured in the incident and the airport operations were unaffected.
Usman Sherazi, a passenger on board the plane, PIA flight PK-789, said that it had taken off from Lahore and landed in Toronto at around 5:50 pm. Sherazi added that he did not feel the planes making contact. He however expressed apprehension about the fact that the passengers had to wait for three hours after arrival to get their bags.
A PIA spokesperson said that the matter was currently under investigation. He said, “The matter is under investigation and apparently the incident occurred due to an error during marshaling by the ground personnel.” He further said that there was some damage to the equipment which may require replacement. “Night stop has been declared at Toronto and passengers who had checked in for Toronto-Lahore flight PK-790 have been provided hotel accommodation so that they can wait while the aircraft is made serviceable,” he added.
