FAISALABAD/SIALKOT: At least four people were killed while 33 others sustained injuries in fog-related road accidents in Faisalabad and near Daska on Saturday.
In the first incident, two motorcyclists Bilal and Nasir rammed into a tractor trolley near Chak Jhumra due to low visibility. The two received critical injuries and breathed their last before they could be moved to the hospital.
In a separate incident, a tanker hit a 21-year-old motorcyclist in the Millat Town police precinct. As a result, motorcyclist Sikandar received severe injuries and was rushed to a near-by hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
Over in the Sialkot region, a bus driver named Asghar Ali died while 33 passengers, including women and children, sustained severe injuries when a bus running on the Daska-Pasrur route overturned near Ban Bajwa village. It was not clear how the accident took place, but there was zero visibility in the area due to dense fog. Rescue 1122 officials shifted the 33 injured to hospitals in Pasrur and Sialkot, where at least 14 of them were fighting for their lives until the filing of this report.
It may be mentioned here that dense fog continued to disrupt road traffic in Punjab amid reports that several sections of the motorway had been closed on Saturday due to low visibility. The M3 section of the motorway, leading to Faisalabad from Pindi Bhattian, was also closed.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has forecast mainly cold and dry weather for most parts of the country.
However, dense foggy conditions are likely to prevail over plain of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during morning hours.
