PESHAWAR: Fazlur Rehman, chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, said on Thursday the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government failed to deliver.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, the cleric said competent and honest officers were reluctant to remain part of the KP government.
The cleric also said extension in military courts and National Action Plan is unacceptable. He said that if there are security concerns as far as judges of civil courts are concerned, the Pakistan Army should provide security to them.
He also said that politicising of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project needs to be stopped. He said, “Unless there are serious reservations over the project, we are part of that however; we can’t be part of non-serious reservations over CPEC.” Fazl said the government should not make a hasty decision about the future of FATA.
The cleric, popularly known as “Mullah Diesel” for getting diesel permits from slain PPP chairwoman Benazir Bhutto, said that no corruption case ever surfaced against his party. He said former president Asif Zardari’s return to Pakistan is a good gesture.
Expressing his surprise over Zardari’s decision to contest by-polls, the cleric said it reflected that the former president was not satisfied with the performance of the leader of opposition in the National Assembly and as such he (Zardari) decided to join the parliamentary politics with his son who will be making a debut. The cleric revealed that there are hurdles in the restructuring of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA). He cleared out that the JUI-F wanted to stop the passing of women’s protection bill, but a Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker voted in favour of the bill.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan did not stand by his words and decisions and known for taking frequent U-turns on matters of national political importance, he said. The PTI chief, he added, always snubbed parliament and lawmakers and the very next moment he changed his decision and sat in the same House which he had been insulting for the last three and half years.
