KARAK: Residents of different localities including Kanda Karak, Kanda Baji Khel and adjacent villages took to streets against the prolong load shedding and disconnection of power supply to the area on Thursday and shouted slogans against PESCO.
The protestors, led by Qari Badrul Islam, marched from Indus Highway to the city and held a protest demonstration outside the offices of PESCO subdivision in Karak on the main road.
The speakers on the occasion said that Karak was experiencing prolonged load shedding on daily basis and the people were unable even to run their drinking water supply schemes, resulting in water scarcity in the area.
They alleged that PESCO has disconnected the power supply to the localities which has plunged the area into darkness. They said that PESCO Karak has adopted the path of collision with the masses, adding that the masses were no more able to control their patience.
They demanded that the power outages should be made according to official schedule and resolved that they were no more ready to accept unscheduled load shedding in the district.
The speakers demanded restoration of power supply in the area without any further delay.
Later, PESCO Sub Divisional Officer Syed Raza Shah and Chairman Rehmanuddin held negotiations with the representatives of the protestors and it was decided that the power consumers of the area would pay the monthly bills regularly while the PESCO meter readers would ensure regular checking of the power meters.
The elders assured that they would form a committee on the level of localities to ensure the payment of monthly bills. The protestors then dispersed peacefully on the assurance of the PESCO employee that their power would be restored and load shedding would be carried out according to a schedule.
