ISLAMABAD: While addressing a crowded press conference at the Islamabad Press Club on Tuesday, Aafia Movement leader and leading neuro physician, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, questioned the Pakistani government’s determination to bring Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
“Pakistani rulers keep wasting opportunities to seek the release of Pakistani mother Dr Aafia Siddiqui from United States’ (US) custody and it is extremely strange how the Pakistan government is shying away from even writing a simple letter to the US administration, requesting them to pardon and release Aafia,” Dr Fowzia said.
She said that yet another golden chance went to waste, as US President Obama was never officially asked to pardon Dr Siddiqui, when the term of his administration is about to end. A simple letter, officially written by the government of Pakistan, may result in the release of the nation’s daughter, but the Pakistanis fails to understand why their government is reluctant to write a simple letter.
The Aafia Movement leader said that during the last 14 years no Pakistani president or prime minister officially asked the US administration on Aafia’s detention. This is a bitter fact that tells us loud and clear that they are our own rulers, who betrayed Dr Aafia.
