KARACHI: President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday said the Green Line Bus Service is a gift from the Nawaz-led federal government for the Karachiites.
Mamnoon said the bus project would benefit over 0.4 million commuters daily. He was speaking during a briefing given to him about the project. The project will also resolve the future traffic issues in the city, the president said, adding that about 400,000 commuters will benefit from the bus service daily. Karachi is the country’s business hub and it would continue to play its role in the nation’s economy, he added.
The president said the government was committed to resolving the issues facing the big cities, including Karachi.
He said the installation of desalination plant is also under consideration for provision of clean drinking water to the residents of Karachi. Mamnoon directed officials concerned for timely completion of the project. The project was initiated and funded with the cooperation of the federal government at a cost of Rs 16 billion and it will be completed by the end of next financial year.
The project is a reflection of the federal government’s resolve to provide modern facilities to all the citizens without any discrimination, he added. The presentation was attended among others by the Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Transport Minister Nasir Hussain Shah and other concerned officials of the project.
