LAHORE: As many as 1,101 graduates were conferred degrees at the 8th convocation of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore held on Thursday.
Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana presided over the convocation.
Among 1,101 graduates, 220 students of DVMs, BS (Hons)’s 238 students, 80 students of Pharm-D, 39 of MBA, 16 of MBA (Executive), 22 students of MBF, 45 students of BBA (Hons), 135 MSc students, 270 MPhil students and 36 PhDs received degrees. Also, 44 position holders were awarded medals.
Addressing the convocation, the governor congratulated the students, and said that it was their turn to pay back to the society and contribute to the nation building and development. He urged the girl students not to sit in their homes after getting degrees rather join their respective professions to serve the society and humanity. He lauded the progress achieved by the UVAS and positioned itself among top 10 universities of Pakistan. He said that government was committed to ensuring quality education.
He said that a number of reforms had been introduced to improve education system. He urged public-private partnership for promotion of quality education. “We should work jointly for achieving our national goals keeping our political differences apart.”
UVAS Vice Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha spoke about the academics, research, development, extension programmes and community services of the university. He said that with a history of 134 years of excellence, UVAS has now positioned itself among top 10universities of Pakistan in academics as well as in sports and 2nd in agriculture/veterinary category. He said that the UVAS was swiftly achieving the milestones of need-based multi-level education and developing talent development institution by using its knowledge, resources and skills for growth of human resource.
He said the UVAS had been recognised as a hub of professional advancement in wide-ranging areas, including veterinary and animal sciences, animal production and technology, biotechnology, microbiology, pharmaceutical sciences, food and nutrition sciences, environmental sciences, economics and business management. “Currently, the UVAS faculty members are executing 87 research projects while the total number of research articles in journals with impact factor had exceeded 400.
