ISLAMABAD: Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs on Tuesday decided that parliamentarians may forward their recommendations on Election Law (Amendment) Bill 2014 for consideration.
The committee held its meeting today in parliament house under the chairmanship of MNA Mian Abdul Mannan in Parliament House. The committee discussed the Election Law (Amendment) Bill 2014 moved by MNA Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho. The amendment bill seeks amendments in Representation of People’s Act 1976 and the Election Commission Order 2002 for improving transparency and accountability in funding and expenditures for the election.
The committee after a briefing by the Election Commission of Pakistan decided that members of the Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs in particular and members of the Parliament in general may forward their recommendations on the bill to the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms for consideration.
The committee, while discussing parking problems faced by parliamentarians at Karachi airport, directed the Aviation Division and Civil Aviation Authority to provide parking space for the parliamentarians and their easy access to the drop lane at Karachi airport. The committee also expressed its displeasure of the state of cleanliness, security and catering services at Parliament Lodges and government hostels in Islamabad. The committee directed the CDA Administration to focus on cleanliness of the premises and security of the parliamentarians. The committee asked the CDA Administration to conduct surprise checks on the cafeterias to ensure improvement in the quality of food and services.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Dr Nisar Ahmed Jatt, Sheikh Muhammad Akram, Mian Tariq Mehmood, Azhar Qayyum Nahra, Rasheed Ahmad Khan, Nadeem Abbas Rabaira, Salman Haneef Khan, Arifa Khalid Parvez, Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Nasir Khan Khattak, Malik Ihtebar Khan, parliamentary affairs secretary and representatives from the Election Commission of Pakistan, Aviation Division, Capital Development Authority and Civil Aviation.
