ISLAMABAD: In a stunning revelation regarding flight PK-661 on Monday, the pilot of the crashed Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane made at least two mayday calls, what is believed to be the last conversation between the pilot and the control tower.
The first call was made when the PK-661 plane’s engine failed, while the second call was about the emergency landing. The PIA plane carrying 47 people on a domestic flight crashed earlier this month from the mountainous northern city of Chitral to Islamabad, killing all on board.
Earlier this month, a PIA plane, carrying 47 people on a domestic flight, crashed and killed all those on board. The plane took off from Chitral and according to PIA, the plane crashed at 4:42PM in the Havelian area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to PIA management, Captain Salehyar Janjua, the pilot, declared an emergency at 4:14PM and, minutes later, the plane vanished from radar.
Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, PIA Chairman Azam Saigol said that the plane lost one engine, but also made it clear that the aircraft was technically safe and had been inspected in October.
Renowned Pakistani singer-turned-religious preacher Junaid Jamshed, his wife Nahya, and Deputy Commissioner Osama Ahmed Waraich were also among the passengers who lost their lives.
