KARACHI: Former singer-turned Islamic scholar Junaid Jamshed was laid to rest at Karachi’s Jamia Darul Uloom in Korangi Industrial Area on Thursday afternoon.
MQM leader Farooq Sattar, cricketer Saeed Anwar and tens of thousands of his fans and well-wishers attended the funeral prayers. Religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel led his funeral prayers, which was offered at Moin Khan Academy.
For the security of the area, heavy contingent of police and Rangers were deployed.
On December 7, Junaid was traveling from Chitral to Islamabad in flight Pakistan Airlines International (PIA)’s PK-661 flight which crashed near Abbottabad, killing all 48 people on board. His body was identified by forensic experts through his face x-ray on Monday. On Wednesday, Junaid Jamshed’s body was taken to Karachi on C-130 while his funeral prayers were offered at Noor Khan Airbase which was also attended by the air chief. He was also given guard of honor at the base.
