ISLAMABAD: A three-member delegation of the parliaments of Britain and the European Union held a meeting with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday and discussed matters of mutual interest. The delegation included Lord Nazir Ahmed, Lord Qurban Hussain and European Parliament member Afzal Khan.
During the meeting, bilateral relations, cooperation between Pakistan and Britain, parliamentary affairs and Kashmir issue came under discussion.
Nisar said that he appreciated the fact that issues pertaining to the Islamic world and Kashmir were raised in the British Parliament.
He said that Pakistan had given countless sacrifices for maintaining regional and world peace, but still certain elements criticised Pakistan whilst completely ignoring historical and ground realities. The interior minister said these elements included those who had flimsy information and acted on directions from others. He added that these people had their hands stained with the blood of oppressed and were the biggest hurdle in the path to regional peace.
Nisar said, “The international community should not only listen to the viewpoint of Pakistan but also understand it in the right context.”
The interior minister was of the view that Britain was one of the few countries where the viewpoint of Pakistan was heard and understood to a large extent. He also praised Britain’s efforts to establish regional peace.
