KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Sirajul Haq on Thursday claimed that National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) plea bargain scheme was institutionalised corruption.
The JI chief said this a day after the executive board’s meeting which accepted former Balochistan finance secretary’s plea bargain request for Rs 2 billion.
Earlier, NAB put Mushtaq Raisani’s corruption figure at Rs 40 billion and the institution conducted a raid at his residence, which resulted in the arrest the former minister along with seizing Rs 730 million cash.
“Offering plea bargain to culprits is sort of institutionalised corruption by NAB where the criminals can get free by offering a small amount,” Sirajul Haq said on his Twitter.
He also called for alteration in NAB’s ordinance to ensure free and fair accountability, so that the corrupt could be punished severely.
