RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has decided to set up a state-of-the-art facility in Rawalpindi that would generate electricity from garbage.
According to sources, the government is looking for a suitable site near Rawalpindi and as per information, three to four sites have been identified in Rawalpindi and Gujar Khan for the purpose.
The relevant department is preparing a feasibility report, which would soon be forwarded to the provincial government for final approval.
Initially during the testing phase, the project would only be meant for district Rawalpindi and later its scope would be expanded to other districts of Rawalpindi division.
It is pertinent to mention that presently about 1,300 to 1,500 tonnes garbage is being produced daily in Rawalpindi alone and this garbage is dumped at a 600-kanal dumping site at Loosar.
